The iRig Blueturn is a battery-powered small foot switch with Bluetooth functionality. It has 2 buttons with backlight. This means that various functions of apps on the connected tablet or smartphone (Apple and Android) can be easily switched forwards or backwards. The iRig BlueTurn is housed in an attractive, robust plastic casing. On the top side, there is a status LED for the Bluetooth connection next to the 2 illuminated buttons. The battery compartment is located next to the power switch on the underside, to which a non-slip foam pad is attached. The iRig is powered by two AAA batteries. Despite the lack of battery life specifications, the iRig Blue Turn definitely lasts for several hours, which is not least due to the Bluetooth Low Energy technology used. The principle in theory and practice

The iRig Blue Turn from IK Multimedia works by connecting to Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth Low Energy and sending the necessary signals to navigate through music folder apps. BlueTurn masters the commands Page up/Page down, Arrow up/Arrow down and Arrow left/Arrow right for this purpose. Exactly how the switch works depends on whether you hold down the left button, the right button, or both buttons when turning it on.

For the BlueTurn to work, the music program used by the tablet must support the use of Bluetooth switches. These include iKlip Stage, an app from IK Multimedia itself, and the apps Set List maker, forScore and MobileSheets.

The tablet in portrait mode can now be conveniently switched between set lists and notes with the foot, which was not possible before.

However, if the BlueTurn is now not only to simply turn a single page, but also to scroll through a desired page in landscape format for the time being, for example, all that remains to be done is to set the corresponding option in the Touch & Pedal Settings menu.

Switching between pages with the two buttons works really well and precisely. By the way, you don’t have to worry about making noise at concerts, because the buttons don’t make any noise or anything similar. On the other hand, the backlight of the keys makes it easier to operate the device in low-light conditions.
